How to not pay full price on a new video game

Advice from another mommy...I haven't tried this yet.

Most video game stores also sell used video games. How do they get these games? Trade ins that gamers bring in towards newer games.

DH is a HUGE gamer, and we have a $$ saving system.
This is what we do...
I find game lots on ebay, if I think the lot is cheap enough..I have DH research the trade in values of each game. If the lot (plus shipping to me) is worth it, we bid. If we win, we keep the games we want then use the other ones toward games coming out.

Also if we run across video games at yard/garage sales, we do a quick evaluation of those games and if they are no more than $5 a piece we buy the games. Then use for trade in credits.

We know for a fact that almost ANY sports games does not have more than a dollar trade in value. So we tend to avoid buying those. Also, only trade in games for newer systems. Ie: xbox360, PS3, Wiis, Nintendo DS and PSPs. DH says they still have some PS2 games with value. Not so much for the original xbox.

DH also tries for the pre-orders to get the give aways that come with the games. We then sell them on ebay as they become collectors items.

We do not normally buy pre-owned games unless they are less than $10 a piece and there is a sale of some kind like Buy 2 get 1 Free. We also would rather bid low on ebay for pre-owned. People tend to beat a game in a day or get stuck with a game they did not like after all and sell on auction sites in hopes to recover some of their losses as trade in value is too low. New games cannot be returned for full price once opened.

Hope this helps you and Happy gaming!
